My Journey
Finding My Path
During my junior year at NC A&T, it was required for me to take a vaccine to register for my classes. That vaccine nearly took my life. I was lucky that Body Ecology was a short ride from campus. Artis Hinson (ibae) being the staple of natural health that he was, saved my life. With Art's help and guidance, I was able to recover and set a new path for my life's journey. I learned the power and significance of a raw diet and how profound the concept of "you are what you eat" is. This is where my Natural Health studies began. Thank you, Art!
My African Mind
While living in Richmond I met Dr. Laila Afrika during a lecture. I remember not liking what he taught about carrots and hybrid vegetables. He showed me how so much of the information we access is centered on other’s biology and not people like us. I started to study through a more culturally relevant lens and shifted my thinking. I continued to study with my mentors and earned my certificate in Holistic Health Counseling through the International Board of African Thinkers, Traditional Priests, Priestesses, Healers & Religion, Inc. Knowing the politics of the time, and my training my mentors urged me to register as a Naturopath. I did so in 2007.
The Process of Evolution
In 2011 I met my now Godparents and instantly knew Ile Muyiwa was home. With their guidance, mentorship, and love I've grown in so many ways. They have taught me how to heal and empowered me to step into my purpose and embrace my destiny. Words can not begin to express my gratitude. As a result of so much work, I'm a proud Custodian of Culture. As a member of Egbe Moremi, I am committed to cultivating Sisterhood in its most divine cultural expression. As a new initiate of the Egugun Society, I look forward to being a guide back to the Ancestors.
